10 on Thursday

Ten on Thursday (better late than never)

1. The Tooth Fairy made her first visit to our house this week. It made me sad. Just one more sign that my little girl is getting big. Sarah was excited about the tooth but nervous about the Tooth Fairy. She left her tooth box in our room, too scared to have a "stranger" in her room. Andy and I had a good laugh about that. She then woke us up at 4am when she noticed her box on her nightstand with some money in it. Pretty funny.
   
   
2. Our winter lawn is in and growing. It should be ready for play by the time we TRULY settle into 80 degree temperature without forays into record setting high 90's or 100!!!
3. Sarah and I had a fantastic time back east with my brother and his family. It was nice to see them and to meet my nephew before he gets too big. It was also really cool to have a mother/daughter trip.



4. Congrats to my dear friend on her good news. You know who you are and I know you read this. :)
5. How about my birthday cake..... it made me smile.
6. Have I mentioned that I really don't think it's fair that kids bounce back so fast from being sick while it takes grown ups forever!!! I was ill Friday night, into Saturday and I am still recovering. Isn't it the grown ups who have less time to be sick. I want to bounce back in no time too!!
7. Getting really tired of this never ending potty training. Seriously, Will, please.... I'm not above begging. Oh wait, I've tried that. We are making another serious attempt this weekend to see if we can go to underwear and start staying at school longer. Wish us luck.
8. My 2nd child is much more stubborn and self-assured than my 1st. That seems a bit weird to me.
9. I truly appreciate that Will likes to clear his dishes. The problem is that he thinks it all goes in the trash. I go trash can diving several days a week because he always seems to sneak it in there.
10. I'm getting kind of excited about holiday shopping.

10 on Tuesday

1. I was racing to get Sarah after dance last Friday at school and Will stopped outside the office. I told him to catch up and he said NO, I need to stop and smell the flowers. Do I have a future philosopher on my hands?? It was so cute that I just had to stop with him. He was more than willing to run down to Sarah's room after he sniffed the flowers.
2. Andy and I had a date over the weekend and headed up to Cafe Pino at the 101. We hadn't been there in awhile and it was as good as we remembered. The food is pretty good and fast. I love that the owners wander around and make sure the customers are happy and take our orders for Creme Brulee. We followed dinner up with a movie - The Invention of Lying. I'm not sure really what I thought of it. It was very interesting, humorous at parts and painful to watch at other parts.
3. We head to the allergy Dr. tomorrow to check out Will's mosquito problem. He got a new bite Sunday night on top of his ankle. It's nice and read and a bit swollen - like usual. Poor kid.
4. How about we went to a part of the zoo we'd never been to over the weekend. I think we always come to the petting zoo by way of a currently closed path. This time we saw the wallabies and played in the play area there. The kids loved it!
5. I'm sad that Will fits in his long sleeve shirts and his million pairs of "Jackson" jeans (hand me downs). I did buy him a couple cute shirts but now I guess I need to focus on socks. That's about all he needs. I'm waiting for his feet to have a growth spurt. It's been way too long. I'm sure he'll jump a size and a half or something so I just get to look longingly at cute boy shoes and wait.
6. The weather is finally turning. Sarah has been wearing a sweatshirt in the mornings for oh, the drive to school and that's about it. It was only 80 yesterday though. GORGEOUS!
7. My kids (all 3) have been sick off and on for the past 2 weeks. All little stuff except for Sarah. It's back again - this tiny fever that doesn't affect the kids really but keeps them out of school. It's driving me mad!
8. I have been on a classic rock kick for a week or so and really enjoying it. I also put a couple CDs in the car that I haven't listened to in a long time. It's been really nice, kind of like changing the music with the seasons.
9. Got Sarah's school pics back. The envelope said A Smile Worth Sharing.... ummm... okay. That smile worth sharing is a goofy Sarah posed smile. Oh well, it's truly Sarah and so we will keep it and pass it out to family who will be forced to display it. Now, the smile in her class picture is awesome. I wish I could switch them. Funny girl.
10. I saved the funniest for last. I RSVP'd No to a b-day party for a girl in Will's class recently for several reasons - I couldn't pick the little girl out of a lineup and it was Will's nap time. The party was last Saturday. I almost forgot about it until Andy and I decided to take the kids (right after Will's nap) to play mini golf. I saw a grandfather carrying out b-day presents and had to stop Andy to tell him we couldn't go in because THAT'S WHERE THE PARTY WAS!!!! OOOOOOOOPS!! I didn't get caught and it gave us both a good laugh. Andy just kept calling me a moron. The party was probably just ending but we did have to go to another golf place (luckily pretty close). I had to tell Sarah that it was closed. She didn't quite understand why there were tons of cars in the parking lot if it was closed. So, that's your laugh for this Tuesday.

Finally - 10 on T

1. Our house is SLOWLY getting back to some semblance of order. Life changes will do that to you. We are still trying to find places for everything though.
2. Sarah tried her first hot lunch at school this week. She loved it. It comes with a salad bar and sandwiches. I think she tried everything but the cottage cheese which she said wouldn't fit on her plate.
3. My crazy brother broke his arm on Sunday running in the dark. Let that be a lesson to all you after dark runners!! His wife is not thrilled considering that they have a 1 month old and a kindergartener. He has surgery to fix it later this week.
4. I feel like I should have so much more for this list but all that's been happening lately is nitty gritty boring stuff or life stuff that doesn't need to be on a list like this.
5. I'm ready for a vacation. Just me and Andy. My girls weekend was so much fun but didn't provide a true break from everything or maybe just not a long enough break from everything.
6. I got Andy hooked on FlashForward, after he fell asleep 15 minutes in, by watching the last few minutes of the premier with the guy in the stadium. I know what gets him! Hehehehe. I'm evil.
7. I'm really, really ready for fall - not calendar fall but temperature fall. Our little jaunt to DC will be nice simply for the cooler temps.
8. I had a flash back this morning dropping Will off at school There were several moms there with babies on the hip dropping off their oldest children. That was me 2 years ago, complaining that my crazy little boy wasn't crawling and was a pain to carry to drop off Sarah. My! How things change!
9. I love Trader Joe's. Dropped by this morning to pick up a couple things that cost too much at the grocery store or that I couldn't find and sure enough TJ's had them for a decent price. YAY!
10. Is it bad that I'm having a cup of coffee right now and it's almost 100 out? I can dream that it's chilly out and enjoy it just the same!

Halloween

Yes, I know it's been forever since I wrote anything. We've been a bit busy with life changes.

and... Yes I know it's still over a month until Halloween but in honor of picking the main Halloween theme for this year and in honor of Sarah making a decision, I am changing the look of the blog and trying out some Halloween backgrounds.

10 on Tuesday ( a tiny bit late)

Love to my dear friend and mother -in-law Pam Klemmer. She will soon be joining some wonderful angels and her pain will be gone. A blessing and a terrible loss all together.

The new blog colors are in her honor - pink and lime green (or at least as close as I could get) - a combination that will forever make me think happy thoughts of her.

10 + 1 = 11 on Tuesday - The School Edition

1. Sarah is finally used to the uniform and actually likes it. She even loves the navy Chucks I got her to go with it! Her newest adjustment is having to pick things for her hair that are not pink.
2. The walk to Sarah's classroom is horrendous. When it is the middle of the day and 106 and I'm dragging a 2 1/2 year old who is cranky and tired and then walking back with the slowest 2 kids EVER (or who seem to be the slowest when it is that hot)....ummm where was I going with that thought.... yeah that's what that walk does to my brain.
3. We have a new lunch system at our house. 2 days in and it's going OK. The bottom shelf of the pantry and the bottom shelf of the fridge are lunch/snack central. Sarah knows to the pick 1 thing from each basket and each sandwich is labeled with what it is and who it's for (Will's are in there too) and then she grabs 1 thing from the pantry and gets her ice pack. She LOVES it. I have to oversee a bit but I think she'll get the hang of it in a week or so.
4. Sarah has more jobs at home now that school has started- mostly getting her own stuff out of the car and putting it away. She's in charge of her lunchbox and her swim bag on swim day. YAY! Let's just hope we keep all this up. That seems to be our downfall.
5. Sarah has a new best buddy and is becoming closer friends with another little girl as well. The interesting part is that she has a very hard time telling the 2 apart. They are both Asian. Her teacher said that's very common at this age. I find that fascinating for some reason. Side note: How much do I love that her little friend waits for Sarah every morning to get her stuff put away and for me to leave. She stands patiently right by us and it is so sweet and polite at the same time.
6. Sarah's favorite part of her 1st full day of school - Art Class. Yup - they go somewhere else to do art. They get to color and do things in class but they go somewhere else to do art specifically. Cool.
7. Sarah's least favorite part of her 1st full day of school - leaving school. She had to think about that. How cute is that! I love that she likes school. That will disappear soon enough I'm sure but for now I will enjoy it.
8. Not to be outdone, Will makes this list as well but with only a few hours under his belt. I haven't even picked him up yet. We spent the drive to Sarah's school, the drive to breakfast with Grandpa and the drive to school talking all about the most important rule of school - NO POOP IN THE UNDIES.... oh and your teachers are in charge and how to aim your pee and who to tell when you have to go potty and remember to share and no eating sand and no throwing sand. It was like cramming for a test with him. He took it all in stride and put up with it gracefully.
9. Dropping Will off - umm or rather Will telling me not to let the door hit me on the way out!!! Play-Doh trumps Mommy I guess - unless there's a boo-boo or food is needed or potty or a big storm. When we arrived at school, I had to convince him to go in the door. He was too busy playing outside because that's what he usually does when we take Sarah. I finally got him in the door and he ran for the Play-Doh and then I had to get him to wash his hands. He found another toy and refused to look up when I took a picture (See Below!) and then refused to take his eyes off the toys as he kissed my cheek goodbye. I didn't cry. I was so proud of him and amused by his lack of interest in Mommy. Way to go Will!
10. So, school is in session in this house and while I spend my first morning wondering if/when the teachers will call me to come get my poopy child, I'm still so excited for both of them and excited to have a bit more time for me. I still get my time with the little man but he's going to have a blast with the wonderful ladies that are his teachers.
11. And.... since I was interrupted just as I was going to post this.... a bonus #11. Just picked Will up because he pooped! Yuck and how disappointing. According to the teachers, he didn't say anything, they only noticed the smell. They said other than that he was being very good and having a wonderful time. We left and he screamed because he didn't want to leave school. Let's hope that helps to convince him to poop in the potty. Ugh!!!!
